OLAS Tags pair with your device to create a virtual tether between your phone/tablet and crew members, children, pets or objects, such as a lifebuoy.

When the virtual tether is ‘broken’ OLAS will:

Emit an audible alarm and light signal.
Record the time and GPS location where the incident occurred.
Clearly illustrate the direction and course to return to the alert GPS location.

The OLAS system uses Alert and Find technology to create a portable crew tracking and overboard location alert system.

In an MOB situation OLAS will sound an alarm and record the latitude and longitude of the incident using the phone or tablets GPS.

In the event that the skipper or a crew member has gone overboard OLAS helps direct the remaining crew on a successful MOB recovery and communication with emergency services

The compass gives a simple clear visual aid to steer to the direction where the alert occurred. An arrow points to the logged coordinates and tells you the compass bearing and distance to return to the incident co-ordinates.

The Alert Latitude and Longitude are stored along with the time of the incident and the vessels current Latitude and Longitude.

This is displayed clearly on the screen allowing the user to easily inform the rescue services of the important information

OLAS APP walks you through making a DSC Distress alert and MAYDAY call.  In a stressful situation it’s easy for even experienced sailors to ‘go blank’.  Every second is vital.

Pre-set your OLAS APP with your vessel information, such as vessel name, call sign and MMSI. This will be integrated into the distress call procedure along with the coordinates of the alert.

The screens offer brief reminders on the best techniques to rescue an MOB when under sail and when under motor.

The emergency number feature allows you to pre-select your local emergency number, such as 112 in Europe. This feature is accessed in Emergency information.

Alternatively there is the option to enter a personal emergency number such as a sister vessel contact number.

In an MOB situation you can select which number you wish to call.

Each Tag can be named individually and allocated to a person or object such as a dan buoy.

In the Synced Tags page you can either deactivate the Tags individually or all at once. Once deactivated each OLAS Tag can be switched off without causing an alert.

If the OLAS tag is switched off within 0.5 meters of the phone it will deactivate the Tag and the Tag itself will also be turned off. Switching on the tag will automatically reactivate the Tag if in range.

The OLAS Tag will last roughly for 5 months if left turned on. However, to preserve battery life it is advised to switch your Tag off when not in use. The Tag battery status is displayed in the Synced Tags page. If the Tag’s battery life falls below 5% an alert is made to warn that you need to replace the Tag.

False alerts may occur due to a connection break, such as someone jumping ashore. This can be simply cancelled by bringing the Tag back into range or by manually cancelling the alert on the phone.

With a clear line of sight your OLAS Tag connects with the APP for up to 50 meters range.  However it is advised that the OLAS system is used on yachts up to 50ft (15.25m) as other elements, such as masts and superstructures, can cause signal loss. It is important to keep the mobile/tablet in a location which achieves connection at all points, this should be checked when the Tags are initially synced.

Note : Carbon and aluminium hulls will block the connection. If used in carbon or aluminium hulls it is important that the device with the OLAS APP is close to the hatch so a clear line can be achieved for connection.
